What: 2nd Annual Nordheimer Race 2008: Cal-Salmon River, Northern California

When: May 2-4th, 2008. The actual race will be on Saturday, May 3rd. Start time: TBD

Cost: This race is entirely free to participants. Camping is paid for by the organizer as well as the cost of beer and event organization.

Summary: Every May, paddlers converge on the Cal-Salmon to paddle one of the most beautiful rivers in the country. Last year, a kayak / raft / anything that floats race took place on the Nordheimer section of the Cal-Salmon. We had a great turnout with over 10 rafts racing and a handful of kayakers. This year we are expecting even greater numbers as the word about this race has been spreading for the last year. Expected attendance is 100-150+ people.

Fundraiser: This is where I need your help.
On November 9th 2007, Sean Langevin,23, a longtime friend of several paddlers, was ambushed and killed near the eastern border of Afghanistan with his Army Unit. One of 9 killed in that attack, Sean left behind a wife, Jessica, who is expecting their 1st daughter in March of 2008. The hope is that we will be able to solicit enough donations to be able to make a sizeable contribution to Sean’s unborn daughter’s Trust Fund established with Wells Fargo. Raffle tickets will be available throughout the weekend for $1 a piece. 100% of the proceeds will be deposited into the memorial fund. Donations of any size will be greatly appreciated.

Sponsorship Package:
Your company’s logo will appear on the event flier, t-shirt, and post race video. In addition, you will be making a huge difference in someone’s life. The Third Annual Burnt Ranch Race was held on October 13th, 2007. This year there was a return of previous competitors as well a great showing of 1st time racers. In addition to a record number of kayakers there were also 3 raft teams racing down the Gorge for the first time ever. Beginning with a mass start in the rapid above Toilet Bowl, sometimes called "Son of Scrapper", racers battled for position early on.
Dan Menten got off with an early lead which he maintained until the middle of #1. At which point Charlie Center managed to sneak by, dropping the right side of #2 with Dan right on his back.

Congrats to Charlie for winning the 3rd Annual BRG Race!

Dan was awarded a Gortex Drytop courtesy of Kokatat.

Luke Walker won a pair of float bags for swimming without them courtesy of Colorado Kayak Supply.

In the Shortboat Class Todd Baker won in his 1st ever trip down the ranch.

Team Bigfoot, guided by Matt Hogge, won the 1st ever Raft Race Division.

Team Wet had the largest showing bringing 2 rafts for the competition.

Counts for this year estimate participation around 40-50 people, including the 3 rafts.

Thanks again to everyone for attending, as well as Kokatat and Colorado Kayak Supply who supplied prizes free for participants.

In addition thanks to Shaun Walker (Times Standard) and Robin Stocum (Trinity Journal) for taking and suppling photographs of the racers.

Unfortunately, a small dog fell down the cliffs of the gorge about 40' and Shaun missed the picture of the last Wet boat. Stupid Dog. If you really want to hear the story of the tumbling dog ask Rush about it, he seemed pretty horrified from the experience. For those who care the dog was fine.
